March has been a busy month. On March 15th De gave a lecture to the East Row Garden Club of Newport, Kentucky. The topic was "32 Safe, Edible Flowers". The lecture was well received and a lively discussion followed. Click here if your Garden Club or other organization would like to schedule De for an appearance or lecture.

Also in March De went to Piner Elementary School to serve the teachers and staff. De prepared a Mustard Vidalia Onion Vinegarette marinated chicken breasts. It was a great day and a wonderful opportunity to serve some of our Country's best. Thank you teachers and staff for all that you do everyday for our youngsters.

Occasionally Susan & I will offer to prepare a dinner for two or four. We offer these as fund raisers for non-profit organizations. Such was the case when we did a dinner for Harry & Tess Humpert. These wonderfully sweet people were celebrating their 54th wedding anniversary. Russ & Anne Gastright (son-in-law & daughter and friends of ours from our church) won the dinner at auction. As you can see from the pictures, we all had a great time.

The First Season

March

Our first show aired March 5th. We are pleased to have Ted Walsh as our first guest. Ted comes to us from the kitchen of The Bankers Club on Fountain Square in Cincinnati. We will cover the herbs oregano, basil and chives. Ted says we might also talk about mint. Recipes for this show are Mediterranean Chicken, Warm Potato, Sausage & Goat Cheese Salad, and Fried Basil Garnish. Well, we didn't have time to cover mint on the show with Ted, so we will talk about it with Matt in April. This will be in time to help you prepare your Mint Juleps for the Kentucky Derby. Apron of distinction provided by Mickey Tibbs.

April

Our guest for this show is Matt Buschle, Executive Chef of Jack Quinn's Restaurant and Irish Pub. In an open expression of Spring, we have declared this mint day. Since we didn't have enough time to cover mint in the first show, I thought it only appropriate that we devote the entire show to mint. Recipes for this show are Mint Juleps, Simple Syrup, Mint Poached Pears, and Rack of Lamb. Apron of distinction provided by Elizabeth Gonzalez.

July

I have waited a long time for this show. My guest is Terri Bonar-Stewart. This is the person who helped instill in me a love for herbs. She is also the first person that shared, with me, the secrets of making great herbed vinegars. On this show you will learn how to create your own herbed vinegars, as well as, learn of the many commercially available products. We will also touch on herbed oils. We will be doing a vinegar tasting. If you have never seen or participated in one of these, this is a must see. Maybe it's the sixties in me, but one of my favorite herbed vinegars is called Simon & Garfunkle vinegar. I'm sure you will get it after looking at the recipe.
